Obituary of Paul Blais

Blais, Joseph Louis Paul Arthur

December 11, 1925 - October 26, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Blais after a courageous battle with cancer on October 26, 2019 at the age of 93 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

Paul was born in St.Thomas-Didyme Lac-St-Jean-Ouest, Quebec on December 11, 1925. He worked on the family farm in Quebec before venturing out at the age of 22 to work at the Air Force Base in Labrador. He then left Quebec in the early 1950's finding his love of the outdoors working a variety of odd jobs in the logging industry, just to pay for gas money to make his way West, where he eventually landed in Peace River, Alberta. He started to work as a truck driver for who was to become his future father in law. After a few years of courtship, Paul married the love of his life, Rose in 1961. They then moved to Chetwynd, B.C., where he started his own trucking company and had his two daughters. He moved his family and company to Cranbrook, B.C. in around 1969, where he worked for Crestbrook Forest Industries (CFI) until his retirement in the mid 1980's.

His retirement years were spent camping, fishing, gambling at the casino, having coffee with friends, and enjoying as much time with his grandchildren and beloved dog Ginger as he could. Paul will fondly be remembered as an amazing husband, father and grandpa. His mischievous smile, countless pranks and the ability to bring life to a party, will be forever missed.

Paul is survived by two sisters, Rita and Marie, wife Rose, daughters Claudette Sopkow (Dave), Doris Wood and grandchildren Brandon, Christopher, Matthew, Meagan and his dog Ginger.
