Ruby Evelyn Lariviere, age 100 of Kimberley/Cranbrook, B.C., passed away on December 23, 2019. She was born to the late William and Mary Jane McMillan in the family farmhouse located in Erickson, Manitoba on June 27, 1919. The farmhouse is where she spent her young life with her older brother Cliff, and parents. Through the love of learning to play the piano, her future would be determined by the love of her life, and later to become her husband, Adelard Lariviere. Through mutual neighbors, Adelard would visit Ruby, bringing his fiddle, this is when their love affair began. The newlyweds had three children in or near Erickson, Manitoba. Nadine, Audrey and Wayne and eventually moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Times were tough in the prairies, so the family moved to Surrey, B.C. where there was better employment for Adelard. After living in Port Coquitlam, B.C., for many years, Adelard passed away sometime after their 56th wedding anniversary, and Ruby moved up to Cranbrook, B.C. where she eventually moved into Garden View Village in Kimberley, B.C. She spent over 7 years there, loving her independence, the mountains, the staff and the food. Ruby is survived by her daughters Nadine McGeachy and Audrey (Edward) King, daughter in law Rosalie Lariviere, plus numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Ruby was predeceased by her parents, William/Mary Jane McMillan, her husband Adelard Lariviere, her son Wayne Lariviere brother Cliff (Violet) McMillan, son in law Don McGeachy and two grandchildren Stewart Grant and Susan Zytaruk. On her birthday, there will be a celebration of life held on June 27th, 2020 at her grandson Lance King’s home in Langley, B.C., Interment to follow at Valleyview Cemetery in Surrey, B.C. Times will be announced closer to the date. We wish to express our gratitude to the staff at Gardenview Village, the Pines Care home, the F.W Green Home and Ruby’s final home Kootenay Street Care Village.
