Obituary of Chuck Duncan
Please share a memory of Chuck to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Loving and kind in all his ways,
Upright and just to the end of his days,
Sincere and kind in heart and mind
What a beautiful memory he left behind.
Charles “Chuck” Duncan passed away January 10, 2020 at E.K.R.H in Cranbrook at the age of 88 with his family at his side.
Chuck was born to Charles and Margaret Duncan on March 18, 1931 in Regina Saskatchewan. Chuck was the third of four children and the first-born son. He was a first generation Canadian of Scottish immigrant parents.
Chuck grew up in Regina and attended Scott Collegiate School. He loved sports and played both football and Hockey in his youth. He loved to tell his stories of playing hockey and travelling throughout Saskatchewan. While in high school he met a beautiful girl named Norma who changed his life when they fell in love and married three years later on May 17th, 1952.
In 1956 Chuck and Norma packed up and moved to Vancouver, B.C., with their eldest son Dick. While there, the family grew to include one more son, Jim and a daughter Trish.
Chuck was a Pipefitter/Steamfitter. He was a proud member of Local 170 for 68 years. Chuck was a strong union man and spent many hours on the picket line fighting for what he believed in. He worked at the shipyards in Vancouver, and then worked construction throughout B.C. during the 60’s and 70’s working on many large projects. The Skookumchuck pulp mill project is what finally brought Chuck and his family to the East Kootenays in 1967. After moving to various locations for Chucks work including Powell River, Cranbrook, Fernie, and Minnesota, they settled in Sparwood, B.C., for 16 years before finally moving back to Cranbrook in 1996.
In retirement Chuck could often be found in his small workshop turning out toys for the grandchildren, as well as many other creations. He spent countless hours with his friend Ted as they worked tirelessly building replicas of the Titan truck in Sparwood to raise money for the United church. He enjoyed attending Kootenay Ice games with his son in-law Stan and especially enjoyed watching the Regina Pats play. Chuck was also a beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders fan and rarely missed a televised game. He was an avid fisherman and shared his love of fishing with all his children and grandchildren. One of his favorite lakes was Premier Lake and in later years Moyie. He also spent many hours working his mind with crosswords, word searches and Jigsaw puzzles.
Chuck was predeceased by his loving wife Norma of 65 years, his parents, an older sister, younger brother, brother in-law and a daughter-in law. He is survived by his three children Dick (Donna), Jim (Pat), Trish (Stan), seven grandchildren Tammy (Jesse), Alan (Tracy), Shawn, Scott, Brenden, Tommy and Tasha, eleven great grandchildren, one sister Dorothy Dregar, one sister in-law Glenna Lindberg, five nephews, three nieces and several great nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends including the guys at Core fitness where he worked out regularly Tuesday, Thursdays, and Sundays.
Chucks urn will be placed with his wife Norma on Saturday, April 25th,2020.
Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Services.
