Obituary for THERESA GRUNERUD

1929 - 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Theresa Annie Grunerud (nee Oscvirk), age 90, who passed away peacefully on March 17th, 2020 at Kootenay Street Village in Cranbrook, BC.

Theresa was known as ‘Tress’ to her siblings; ‘Terry’ to her friends; ‘Mum’ to her daughter Debra (John) and son Gordon (Kerri Bell); ‘Grandma’ to her four grandchildren Jocelyn (Martin), Lindsay (Josh), Rory (Chiara) and Keely; and ‘GGT’ (Great Grandmother Theresa) to her great granddaughter Lydia.  Theresa was predeceased by her parents Rose and Martin, husband Gordon, sisters Esther, Deanna and Ruby and brothers Martin, Wilf and Luke.  Surviving brothers Wayne (Marie) and David (Betty) sadly lost two sisters in the last week.

Theresa was born at the end of the roaring 20’s (October 24th, 1929) in Broderick, Saskatchewan - the 4th of 9 siblings.  Theresa learned to cook and bake at a young age for all her younger siblings and this continued for her own family, friends, and neighbours in Kimberley, BC where she lived her entire adult life with the love of her life, husband Gordon.  Her years working in the garden, camping and fishing at Premier Lake, volunteering within the community and spending time with her grandchildren were some of the happiest of her life.  She was part of a special group of girl-friends - the ‘Sewing Circle’ gang that had been meeting regularly for close to 70 years.

Theresa lived a long, full life surrounded by her loved ones, always grateful for what she had, and generously giving to her family with knitting, baking (especially her famous christmas cake), and gardening advice. The smell of her freshly baked cinnamon buns will always be with us.

Theresa, Tress, Terry, Mum, Grandma, and GGT …. we love you very much and miss your supportive presence in our lives.  We will all carry your memory forward with acts of love, just like the ones you’ve shown us.

The family would like to thank the staff at Kootenay Street Village in Cranbrook and Garden View in Kimberley for their support and caring in our time of grief.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favourite charity.  No service has been planned at this time - a Celebration of Theresa’s life will take place in the future.
