Helen Rose Hansen, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother.

Born to parents Gladys and Ernest Welbourn, December 20, 1929 at Kootenay Lake General Hospital, Nelson, B.C., died Cranbrook, B.C., March 31, 2020 at 90 years of age.

Helen is predeceased by her husband Allen (August 2019) daughter Christine Day (2011) father Ernest, Mother Gladys, sister Doris O’Genski (Ronald), and brother George (Thelma).

Helen is survived by her brother Ray (Solange); sister Jean Mobray (Bob); son Robert (Elaine), son Lloyd (Antonella), grandchildren Robert Day and Deanna King (Christine),Tanya and Tara Hansen (Robert), Alexandra Hansen and Gina Dahl (Lloyd) and six great grandchildren.

Helen attended Central Elementary and graduated from Nelson Highschool in 1948. Helen met Allen Hansen in Nelson and they were married in1950.

The newlyweds moved to Lethbridge and quickly started their own family with baby Bobby (Robert) arriving first, Christine three years later and lastly Lloyd in 1955.

In 1960 the Hansen family moved to Cranbrook where Mom lived for the remainder of her life. Mom started working at St. Eugene hospital in 1962 as a nursing aide later moving on to the hospital administration department at St. Eugene and then to the new Cranbrook and District hospital when it was opened in 1968. Mom was a ‘fixture’ in the hospital admitting department for many years. After retiring from the hospital in the 80’s Mom continued to work with local Cranbrook dentist, Dr.LeRose.

Both Mom and Dad were long time members of the Cranbrook Golf and Country Club where many lifelong friendships were formed. Later in retirement Mom and Dad frequently travelled south enjoying the beaches and golf in Oregon and California.

Mom’s passion was her Grandchildren, and all of Mom’s grandchildren have fond memories of time spent with Grandma on special outings, sewing, knitting, baking, or shopping. Great grandchildren came later in life. Fortunately, Mom had the opportunity to meet and spend time with all her great grandchildren.

The family extends a heart felt thank you to all of Mom’s caregivers including Dr. Sarah Chesney, staff at Joseph’s Creek Care Village, Interior Health, Columbia Garden Village Ivy House, and We Care Home Health Services.

A celebration of life for Helen Rose Hansen will be scheduled later in 2020.

Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Services.
