Ray was a former boss of mine at Nova and then TCP. I enjoyed our talks during which I always felt inspired. At the end of our talks he would thank me and say he always learned a lot from me. He was not full of compliments so this meant a great deal to me. Though not full of compliments, he was also not full of complaints either! He was very kind and compassionate. I am sorry he passed away so young. I was shocked and saddened when I saw this obituary. My condolences to his loved ones. I do have a photo but I will have to search for it.

I am deeply sadden to hear of Ray's passing. He was a special person. The Barhams and Moodys have great memories of golf rounds, wine making & drinking, singing and playing guitars. The dinners were awesome especially when Ray was cooking on the BBQ.

Dear Susan, Doreen and all the Barham family. Jacqueline and I are so sad to hear about Ray. He is one of my oldest friends and I have always admired him for his many accomplishments. As mentioned earlier, I dug up a few pictures (some old, some newer) shared here as testimony to just how long people of Ray’s substance and character can make, enjoy and keep their friends close. Way back when the earlier pics were snapped (some in the 60s) we could not have imagined that this time of our lives would arrive all too soon. Jacqueline and I are so glad that we had the chance to visit last year in Arizona - we had such a great time and it will now be one more cherished memory to add to the list. In our recent text, Ray and I chatted about current events, the new Corvette at Barrett-Jackson and summarizing as he put it, that "Life is good". He sure did know how to live it! Take care, and please accept our shared grief in the loss of one of the good guys. Glenn Maloney and Jacqueline Whitehead

Ray and I first met at NOVA in 1992. It was around that time that NOVA’s Edmonton office (which included the SCADA and Field groups management and a separate IS group dedicated to control systems) was shut down and the functions and people were moved to the Calgary office (which had all corporate and corporate IS functions). Ray and I found ourselves in 1994 on the same IS project, one of the first major SAP implementations in Calgary. I think we impressed each other with our shared work ethics and analytical natures; the project was a success. After the project was over, I left NOVA to come to TransCanada. A few months later, the merger of NOVA with TC was announced and, within a few hours, Ray was calling me to get information on what TC was like as a company.
Ray and I were eventually on the same IS Leadership Team for several years. We always shared a common base of experience and mutual respect. Ray played a major role in the first automaton of the measurement/metering of NOVA’s pipelines across the entire province. He was also TransCanada’s VP of HR for several years and made many contributions to the development of both companies.
I’m happy Ray had a few years post-TC to enjoy life on his own terms. He was taken much sooner than he should have been.

Ray Ray (as I referred to him) was a passionate barbque guru, a fierce card player, a rule maker and breaker, a man that took great delight in becoming a grandfather and most of all a friend! Ron and I will miss him and his antics greatly. Although it wasn’t funny in the moment it happened, we will always remember his fight with a cholla cactus on one of our golf outings in Arizona. After a very creative surgery using two putters my husband was able to detach the length of cholla from Rays forearm and we carried on golfing. Our hearts go out Susan and the family. I was very saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Ray. Ray and our families became close friends after he moved to Edmonton in the early 80’s. I have many fond memories of our family camping trips, birthday celebrations and watching Tim, Jeremy and Greg grow up alongside our children.
Ray loved life and was passionate about everything he was involved in. I always enjoyed our time together and looked forward to spirited discussions about politics, sports, family and life in general. He was always a pleasure to spend time with.
Ray will be dearly missed. My condolences to Susan, Tim, Jeremy, Greg and all of Rays extended family.

I will always remember Ray as a person and leader with the highest integrity, with a desire to learn and contribute to the better good for all, with a zest for life and an infectious positive energy, and as such a great human being. We were all enriched by knowing Ray and our fond memories of him and his role modeling will live on in each of us touched by him. My condolences, hugs, prayers, and positive energy go to Susan and Ray's whole family at such a very difficult time. Sarah Raiss

To the Barham family spread far and wide. I have been friends with Ray for over 55 years. In that time we grew from young teenagers in Overbrook (Ottawa) to proud parents and grandfather's. We both attended Carleton University and with hard work raised our standard of living to what Ray often put it as "we - expletive - did alright". We made beer, partied, learned to play guitar and in the late 1980's our families went on a 10 day glamping trip through the Rockies. Through all of which we formed many cherished memories. Getting together wasn't often but when we did it we seemed to pickup exactly where we had left off from the last get together. I'll miss our conversations, playing guitar and Ray's can do attitude, smile and friendship.
