Obituary of Itala Lodovina Marchi

Please share a memory of Itala to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

September 7, 1933 – August 3, 2020

Itala Marchi of Cranbrook, B.C., passed away on August 3, 2020, in the loving arms of her three daughters and grandson, Mark, at the age of 86.

She was born to Severino and Beatrice Bertoia, in San Lorenzo, Pordenone, Italy. At the age of 16, her family immigrated to Michel-Natal, B.C.  At 19 years of age she married the love of her life, Bruno Marchi, and together they had three daughters.

Mom had many amazing qualities. She was a truly kind, caring and forgiving woman, with a deep faith in God. She was extremely hard working, with an incredible work ethic that she instilled in her daughters.  Mom was very outgoing and loved to socialize, which is why she loved to volunteer her time at the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Columbo Hall.  Mom and dad loved to dance at the monthly socials at these two clubs. Another favourite pass time was knitting, and mom made sure each family member received a blanket.  Mom’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.  She cherished every moment with them, and they all absolutely adored their “Nonna”.

Itala will be forever remembered in the hearts of her loving husband Bruno, daughters, Nadia (Reg) Neno, Rosanna (Al) Geib, and Bruna (Jeff) McLaren, brother Alfonso (Jan).  Itala also leaves to mourn her cherished grandchildren,   Jeremy Neno, Renae (Scott) Cockx, Chris (Lindsay) Blemings, Mark (Carly) Blemings, and Jaysen McLaren, great-grandchildren,  Parker Cockx, Karson Cockx, Abbie Lovelace, Riley Blemings, Reid Blemings, Davina Blemings, and Max Blemings, step-grandchildren,  Owen Geib, Tanille Geib, and Desiree Geib, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Itala was predeceased by her parents, Severino and Beatrice, her brother Louis Bertoia, her sisters Gemma Agostinis and Adriana Laine and her best friend Evelyn Watson.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ross Dawson, Dr. Michael Dawson, the staff at E.K.R.H, and especially the nurses and care aides in Mount Steven’s at Joseph’s Creek Care Village for their exceptional care.

Regretfully, due to COVID, the Funeral Mass and Interment will be by invitation only, however after August 7th a video of the service will be available on the McPherson Website, on Itala’s obituary page.

Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Services.
