Robert Dau

Obituary of Robert C Dau

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

February 20, 1929 – July 26, 2020

Bob was born to George and Nellie Dau (Wintgens), in Frank Blairmore, Alberta on February 20, 1929. He was married to Valarie Sayers on November 27, 1948. In 1952 Deborah was born and in 1956 son Robert joined the family.

In the late 50’s Bob joined the Canadian Armed Forces Medical Corps. Within a couple of years, he was deployed to the Bay of Pigs in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Shortly after his return home he was assigned to serve in Werl, Germany as part of a Peace Keeping Force. Bob’s family joined him there for the last year and a half of his assignment.  He was very proud of his service as a lab technician at the British Military Hospital in Iserlohn, Germany and would share his stories of that time all through his life.

Bob loved his cars, and throughout his life he enjoyed many. Even in his last days he could not stop talking about his beloved car.

During his diverse life, Bob also worked as a truck driver, mechanic, orderly and map maker among other things.

Bob is survived by his children Deb (Sandy) and Rob as well as his grandchildren Jeffrey, Kaitlin (Matt) and great grandchildren Chase and Peyton.

He was predeceased by his parents George and Nellie, his sister Georgette Guay, his wife Valerie and just this year by his beautiful granddaughter Marilyn.

A heartfelt thank you to all those who cared for and befriended Bob during his last couple years. These folks include the doctors and nurses in the ER and those on 2nd and 3rd floor at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital. To the staff at The Kimbrook Manor who provided much more that shelter, offering friendship and compassion during his time there.

A special thank you must be expressed to Dr. Michael Dawson who went out of this way to make Bob comfortable and safe during his transition. We are so grateful for the respect and care shown.
