William Hunter

Obituary of William Allan Hunter

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with regret we announce the passing of “Bill” Hunter in the East Kootenay Regional Hospital on September 14, 2020 after a lengthy illness.

Bill was a resident near Yahk for many years, then Creston, and for the past year Kimberly. Bill was born in Southern Alberta, the third child among six siblings. He lived his life with strength and determination. In his early years he was a welder, then a truck driver in the far north of Alberta and in the Northern Territories.

In the Kootenays, together with his friend Tom Kerr, he collected and sold scrap metal. He had many stories of incredible experiences that were stories of survival. He had an adventurous spirit, whether it was hunting, fishing, or even his day-to-day life. He was an independent thinker, often questioning and then breaking “the rules,” he was outspoken. Bill was tough but he showed a tender heart especially to those who were close to him. At the passing of his friend Tom Kerr in 2019, Bill was devastated. Even under his rough exterior he developed a tender interest in spiritual matters, loving and talking about Jesus to anyone who would listen.

Bill was predeceased by his parents Harold and Dorothy Hunter, sister Sue (Walters), and brother Garry.

He is survived by his sister Avis (Paul Nedza), and brothers Ken and Kevin.

Plans for a Celebration of Life are postponed due to the Covid-19 restrictions.

Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Services.
