Obituary of Sonja Marie Matson

March 2, 1944 – October 19, 2020

 

With sadness we announce the passing of Sonja, on October 19, 2020 in the comfort of her home, and surrounded by her loving family.

 

Sonja was born in Kimberley, B.C., to Ted and Thea Kjenstad. She dedicated her adult life to caring for her daughter Brenda, and she worked at the Heritage Inn for more than 25 years. Sonja loved to go to the casino, especially when she won! She was a kind and gentle spirit and was loved by many for her kindness and willingness to help any in need. Family was the dearest thing to her heart, and we will all miss her greatly.

 

Sonja is survived by her daughters Sylvia Mitchell, Diana Walker (Jerry), Brenda Matson, grandchildren Justin and Reese, brothers Paul Kjenstad (Diane), Ted (Darlene), sister Karen Mercer, numerous nieces, and nephews.

 

She was predeceased by her parents Ted and Thea Kjenstad, her husband Melvin Matson, son Robert, sisters Hope, Faith, Frances (June Wanner) and brothers Martin and Tom Kjenstad.

 

A Celebration of Life will commence July 2, 2021, location TBA at a later date.

 

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the SPCA.
