Dear family of Lorne Aston,
I was saddened to learn of Lorne's death. I was a student at Sheldon-Williams Collegiate in Regina from 1959 to 1963. Lorne taught me health and physical education. I remember him as a good teacher who cared about his students. I would like to share a personal memory of him. I went to a school dance in grade 11 or 12 and danced many dances with a girl whose name I can’t remember. She was the younger sister of a girl in my class. At the end of the dance I was about to leave by myself when Lorne, who was one of the teacher chaperones, came up to me and said, “You can’t dance with a girl most of the evening and not offer to walk her home.” That was news to me, but I complied and went over and asked her if I could walk her home. She said yes, but she lived just a couple of blocks from the school and I didn’t see her again. This is just one example of Lorne's thoughtfulness and sensitivity.
Please accept my sincere condolences.
