Obituary of Rea Joyce Tagg

Please share a memory of Rea to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

NOVEMBER 3, 1929 – JUNE 2, 2021

Rea Joyce Tagg (Butler) was born in Pago Pago, Tutuila, Samoa on November 3, 1929, to Julia (Delilah) and Clive Butler.

Rea was a woman of strong faith, and she lived her life with joy of family. Rea grew up in Cardston, Alberta and met the love of her life and eternal partner Dale Salway Tagg whom she married in the Cardston Temple on April 12th, 1950.  That beautiful union created a wonderful, ever growing legacy of five children, Corey (Debbie) Tagg, Mona Rea (Bart) Walburger, Robert “Bob” (Fiona) Tagg, Darcy (Ruby) Tagg, Tammy (Steve) Plett.  They had 19 grandchildren and over 40 great grandchildren and still growing.

Rea was an upstanding and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She was an accomplished and well-loved piano teacher. It was almost a daily occurrence that she would meet a previous student or someone who knew someone she had taught.  Rea and Dale built a beautiful log house at Wasa, B.C., and shared family fun and adventure with everyone who came to visit. Rea loved to swim, float in her inner tube, and enjoy the beach and sun. She was the ultimate grandma who loved beach tea parties, wiener roasts over the campfire and reading stories in bed while the grandchildren hopped in between her and grandpa. She always was put together with her hair curled, her jewelry coordinated, her lipstick on and a smile. She loved her garden and especially her flowers. You know you have the special “Best Grandma Ever” badge when all your grandchildren and great grandchildren have so many memories that fill their hearts with love forever. Her ginger snap cookies were made with so much love and no one stopped at one. Everyone loved her homemade buns, apple sauce and cinnamon ice cream too. Her hands have knitted countless afghans, slippers, doilies/dishcloths much to the delight of all the recipients of these treasures.

Rea and Dale loved to travel. They had many trips around the world and their favourite and most visited spot was Hawaii. An extra special trip to Rea’s birthplace of Samoa made so many wonderful memories that both her and Dale cherished.

Rea was a joyous, loving, sweet, adventurous, full of spunk, faithful, beautiful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, and friend.

Rea left this earth to join Dale and her Heavenly Father on June 2, 2021.  She said she was going to have the most beautiful flower garden in Heaven.

Rea was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Dale in 2019 and her parents Julia (Delilah) and Clive Butler.

Rea is survived by her five children Corey (Debbie) Tagg, Mona Rea (Bart) Walburger, Bob (Fiona) Tagg, Darcy (Ruby) Tagg, Tammy (Steve) Plett, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers Derril, Laurie, Danny and sisters Gloria and Julia (Judy).  Also, many relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

A special mention of appreciation to Caroline, Rachel, Bob Storey, Barb, Jesse and Marylee for their friendship and assistance to Rea.  She cherished all of you and was thankful to have you in her life.

The funeral for Rea will be held at the Cardston Cemetery in Cardston, Alberta on June 8, 2021.  Due to covid restrictions it will be limited to family.
