Helga Hennings

Obituary of Helga Hennings

Please share a memory of Helga to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

January 10, 1938 – June 1, 2021

Helga, mom and oma, passed away peacefully with her husband Ewald, daughter Joan and sister Karin by her side. After a lost battle with cancer, at the age of 83 years.

Helga was born in Berlin, Germany and came to Canada with family at the age of 15. Ewald & Helga married July 28, 1956. Their son Ralph was born in 1961 and daughter Joan in 1964.  She was a devoted homemaker who loved to take care of her family, but in later years she also worked every spring for 18 years at the East Kootenay Greenhouses planting flowers and enjoying her coworkers. Oma loved and often babysat her grandchildren. She was a kind; gentle soul, a genuine loving person, giving her gift to raise and nurture her children and grandchildren. We will miss her rouladens and red cabbage dinners & cupboards full of sweets, and of course that infectious laugh!

Helga is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ewald Hennings, son Ralph (Therese) Hennings of St. Albert, Alberta, daughter Joan (Rick) Pellegrin of Cranbrook, grandchildren Nicole, Tyler (Krysten), Krista, Stephanie and great grandchildren Ellie and Kate, sisters Ruth Ennig of Kelowna, Ingrid Zeppenfeld of Spokane, Karin Robinson (Jack Sandberg) of Cranbrook, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, sister Elisabeth Henderson, brother in laws Henry Ennig, Art Zeppenfeld and Dan Robinson.

In honouring Helga’s wishes there will be no formal services.
