Obituary of Rowland R Symonds

On Friday the 15th of August, 2003, Rowland R. Symonds passed away peacefully at home in Salmon Arm, B.C., with his family by his side. 

Rowland was born in Clarks Harbour, Nova Scotia, May 5, 1931 son of Frank Symonds and Laura (Duncan) Symonda. Rolly had a 24 year career as an Airframe Technician with the Canadian Armed Forces both in Canada and overseas. He retired in 1975 and took up residence in Cranbrook, B.C. and worked in the world of automotive sales and service from 1975 to 1992.

Rolly was an avid bowler and card player. He was an enthusiastic sports card collector and trader. Rolly was known as the Candy Man to all those with a sweet tooth and also the Cat Man as he adopted and loved many strays.

As a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend he will be greatly missed. Rolly was a unique person with a quick wit and was loved for his sense of humour and generous spirit. He was a compassionate, thoughtful man who loved his family, friends and animal companions. 

Rolly is survived by his wife Nelda Ruth Symonds, children Elana and Patrick (Slim) Campsall of Slave Lake, AB, Tania Symonds and Marshall Stepheson of Winnipeg, MB and Carrie Symonds and Rick Grinnell of Vernon, B.C., grandchildren Alisha Symonds, Austin Grinnell, Landon Campsall, Kayln Symonds-Stephenson, great grandchildren Xavier Symonds-Jasper, Kasandra Symonds-Jasper, Gabrielle Petric and Kursten Petric, sisters and brothers Waldeana Jones, Ladrew (Judy) Smith, and Owen Symonds all of Clarks Harbour, NS.

Rolly was cremated at Bowers Funeral Home in Salmon Arm, B.C. and laid to rest in Cranbrook, B.C. wihich he considered home.
