Obituary of Nora Elizabeth Eccleston
January 12, 1919 - December 30, 2010
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Nora Eccleston announces her passing on December 30, 2010 at 91 years of age in Kimberley, British Columbia.
Nora Eccleston was born in Kaslo, B.C. later moving to Nelson, B.C. where she received her education followed by Normal School in Victoria B.C. in 1939. After teaching in Hall Siding and Thrums she came to Kimberley Central School in 1943 as a teacher and librarian. In 1946, in the day of Frank Levirs, she transferred to Mckim, known in those days as Kimberley High School. Nora became the diligent and faithful librarian of this Junior/Senior High School, maintaining proper decorum and earning the respect of staff and students alike.
Nora's sense of humour was appreciated by everyone, especially the new teachers. Nora gave students guidance in the mysteries of the printed word. Nora had an uncanny knowledge of students, she followed their careers past school years with the greatest of interest. In 1967 Nora returned to Watkins Library where she completed her career in 1973. Nora loved the town and people of Kimberley, Nora will be truly missed.
Nora was predeceased by her husband George Eccleston November 3, 2010.
A funeral mass will be held for Nora Eccleston on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Kimberley, B.C. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in honour of Nora may do so to the: Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 502 Church Avenue, Kimberley, B.C., V1A 2L3.
