Obituary of Gordon William Thomson

Please share a memory of Gordon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

December 23rd, 1952 – December 30th, 2021

After a long-fought battle with his health, Gordon Thomson passed away on December 30th. Originally from Edmonton, Gord had a successful career as a realtor in Calgary and the East Kootenay region. He then pursued this interest further as the Chair of the Property Assessment Review Panel in the East Kootenay for many years.

His was a life of cherished simple pleasures. The bright red of a juicy tomato ripened in the summer heat. The hard-won accomplishment of a fruitful garden after many afternoons toiling in the dirt. The mental rigor of an evenly matched chess game. The first glimpse of the cresting view after a grueling hike. Lazing back for an evening of Sunday night football or basking in the warmth of the morning sun’s rays.

The gentleness with which Gord tended his garden permeated his relationships with loved ones. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Diane; three beautiful children, Stephanie (Jessie), Chad and Miranda (Ronnie); five amazing grandchildren, Jace, Shea, Layla, Lily, and Easton; his siblings, Jean, Wendy, and Jim; and two adorable grandpups, Bindi and Orca as well as many nieces and nephews. The warmth of his soft-spoken love was always felt whether it was chuckling at the antics of his ever-growing troupe of grandkids or the mischiefs of Miranda’s pair of puppies. A source of comfort, Gord would stay up whenever a family member couldn’t sleep, telling them to “shoot the bad thoughts away.” He knew the power of a quiet presence and a silly phrase in the dark.

In the midst of such a tragedy, it is hard to imagine any light. But always a sun-lover, Gord’s family will only have to feel the warmth of its rays to know he is there with them.

A private celebration of life will be held in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to https://gofund.me/a02flaa3
