Obituary of Muriel Elizabeth Pachara

Please share a memory of Muriel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness Muriel’s family announce her unexpected passing.

Muriel was born and raised in Cranbrook. Her parents were Charles W (Bunny) & Bertha (nee: Gartside) Atchison. She was big sister and best friend to Karen Gordon, with whom she enjoyed many adventures and good times.

Muriel was a devoted mother to her children Karen, Kevin, and Arthur, and when she fell in love with and married Mike in 1974, to his children Colleen (pre-deceased) and Lorne. Once the kids started having children, she was an extremely proud and loving Nana to Grant, Brenda (both pre-deceased), Sarah, Ashley, Sam, Ryan, David, Nathaniel, Jodi, and Erin. She was over-joyous when Nana Mu (Great Nana) was added to her bio, and by welcoming Michael, William, Joey, Reed, Braeden, Bryce, Brett, Maxwell, Greyson, Bridgette, Ty, and Brianna.

Besides her family and friends, Muriel loved flowers, dogs, and her home! In 1986, Muriel and Mike moved into their house on Hidden Valley Road. There they enjoyed the following years raising their dogs, tending gardens, fruit trees, flower beds, boarding horses and enjoying their views of the Rocky Mountains!

Muriel’s lifelong career as an LPN started after attending the Kelowna Vocational School in 1967. Her caring, calm, and empathic nature was shared with her patients, family, friends, and anyone who was in her presence. After 32 years nursing, she retired from East Kootenay Regional Hospital. She then spent her time by taking up golf, going for coffee at McDonalds and volunteering for the Red Cross.

There will be a Memorial Service at McPherson Funeral Home on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 1:00 pm.  To take part via Live Streaming please click on the tab to the left on Muriel's obituary page.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Muriel’s name to the Canadian Red Cross, the Cranbrook SPCA or a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Services.
