Obituary of Leonard Hosgood
Please share a memory of Leonard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
1952 – 2022
Leonard was born in Burnaby, B.C., on October 1st, 1952, to Douglas and Evelyn Hosgood. Because Evelyn was very ill when Leonard was born (with Down’s Syndrome) the doctors decided he should be cared for in Woodlands Hospital, New Westminster.
After aging out of Woodlands Len was transferred to Maple Ridge, but shortly thereafter the family received a letter from the government that he had been moved to Cranbrook. Quite a shock! However, apart from being so far from Burnaby it turned out to be a wonderful move for him. Pioneer Lodge was, perhaps, the best place he could have lived: Leonard was loved and cared for so very well. Cranbrook afforded him and his fellow residents…his new family… a freedom which he would never have had in the city. He was encouraged to do the most he could - supervised work, sports, and outdoor trips. Leonard lived a long and happy life, making good friends of his fellow residents and caregivers. He passed away on February 6, 2022, at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.
Leonard’s sisters, Maggie and Patty would like to express their gratitude to all the people at Pioneer Lodge for being part of his good life and for making us feel welcome to take part in it from a distance or with occasional visiting.
A Celebration of Leonard’s life will be held in Cranbrook later this Spring.
Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Services.
