Obituary of Ian Ronald McKenzie

Please share a memory of Ian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

1981-2011

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Ian Ronald McKenzie announces his passing on January 19, 2011, at the age of 29. We are grateful for the years that were given to us and will miss him with all our hearts.

He is survived by his mom and dad, Bonnie and Brian McKenzie of Kimberley, his sister Andrea (Jesse) Hall of Ft. McMurray, brother David (Kate) of Vancouver, grandma Agnes Owen of Kimberley and his much-loved nephew and niece, Finnegan and Anna. Ian will also be missed by his numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and his many friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Ken and Sis McKenzie and his uncle Ronald McKenzie. In 2003 he lost Art Owen, his maternal grandad, golf buddy and co-conspirator.

Ian was born and raised in Kimberley, spent a year in France as an exchange student and attended Mt. Royal college before receiving his CIP insurance designation. In the last few years he enjoyed working outdoors with Kootenay Landscaping and valued his friendship with his co-workers there.

Ian built a home with his dad and mom and loved to work with wood in his shop, often producing creative and much-treasured projects. He enjoyed golfing, song-writing, collecting LP records, guitar-playing, canoeing, long walks with his Siberian Husky "Kootenay" and spending time with friends and family.

He had a tender heart for others and loved to share his keen sense of humour. To his friends he was loyal, to his family devoted and to those he met he was generous with his smile and his time. His faith was quiet but strong: he knew where his faith would take him and Who would guide him there.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 97 Boundary Street in Kimberley on Saturday January 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.

To honour his memory, Ian would have wanted you to hug someone dear to you, do something to lighten another's burden or share a smile - it's free!

Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
