March 9, 1930- April 22, 2022

It is with profound sadness that the family of Waltraut H. Meyer announce her passing on April 22, 2022 in Cranbrook, BC with her family by her side.

Waltraut was born in Lahna, Germany on March 9th, 1930 to proud parents Friedriech and Martha Lischewski, she was the fifth of ten children they shared together. She told us many stories through the years of the fun times as a child she remembers in Germany. She also faced hardships in her youth but always met these challenges by being able to focus on the good, one of her many wonderful qualities.

In 1950 Waltraut married Bruno Meyer and they made the choice to immigrate to Lister, BC one year later. Shortly after the move they decided that they would like to settle in Cranbrook, BC. The couple was met by a welcoming congregation in the Lutheran Church and had wonderful neighbours to help them adjust to their new life in Canada. The E.K German Canadian Club also became a close group of friends who worked hard and loved to sing and dance which she always spoke of fondly.

Through the years Waltraut enjoyed many hobbies including knitting, playing cards and hosting parties. She had a huge vegetable garden as well as a flower garden that she loved to tend and for many years she would work at the E.K Greenhouses each spring. She also loved to travel and enjoyed numerous trips to Germany, USA, Mexico and her all-time favorite Hawaii. But above all else Waltraut loved her family immensely and was thankful for a good, full life.

Waltraut is survived by her loving daughters Irene Olafson (Malcolm), Margret (Norm) Watalla, and Lorie-Ann (Kelvin) McKay. Sisters Ruth Juhasz and Kathy Rossi. Brother Meinhard Lischewski. Grandchildren Garth (Donelle), Phillip (Brandi) Roslynd and Alyssa (Rory). Great grandchildren Everett, Leith, Corbin, Hannah, Rowan, Dawson, Freya and Lucy. Many nieces and nephews will also remember her fondly.

Waltraut is predeceased by her husband Bruno and six of her siblings. What a wonderful reunion they will have.

A service will be held on Saturday, May 7th at 11am located at the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Cranbrook, BC.

Beloved Mom, Oma and Sister you will be so greatly missed by all who knew you.
