I was a teacher in School District #5 before my retirement, and had many delightful visits with Bill. After he retired, he often walked on the trails near my home in Gold Creek. As I was walking home from school, I would often run into him and enjoyed listening to him chat about his hikes and his early life in England. He was a warm, caring man and I will miss him.

Bill was a fantastic, friendly neighbour who was always down for a chat. His yard was always neat as a pin. He seemed to possess boundless energy and would willingly and selflessly help other neighbours with snow removal and lawn cutting. When we first moved here Bill was a custodian at the high school. He would collect pennies that the students would just toss on the floor. He’d put these pennies in a jar and left them on low wall in his yard for my daughter to help herself to as we walked home from kindergarten. She thought it was a windfall! We will miss your kindheartedness and the twinkle in your eye, Bill. Peace be with you.

Bill was a tough and talkative guy. Used to be Billy Goodwrench at the Pontiac Buick dealership. Gave good advice. Always kept busy, hiked mountains, fixed plumbing, cars and did carpentry and I admired him as a great example. I added his wedding photo here from 1960, with his family in Haslingden, England, with his mother Ivy, father James, brother Colin and wife Val. His brother Colin who worked in the oilfields in Arabia may still be alive although his younger brother was killed in a fight.
One photo shows his daughter Sheryl, ex-wife Val and himself. They married young, when Val was 16 and he was 21.
Locally he climbed Lakit Lookout (recent photo), went up Maus Creek (photo below) and Bear Lake, did all the great hikes. Kept in great shape.
It was a privilege to know him.

I remember spending fun times with my sister Sheryl in Billy's back yard. He was a very kind and loving man.
