Obituary of Mildred Kathleen Walsh
Please share a memory of Mildred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It would be rare to find a more positive or encouraging person than Mildred. ‘If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.’
Born and raised in Fernie, BC, Mildred moved to Vancouver to attend “normal school” (which her grandchildren loved to tease her about) and graduated with her teaching certificate in 1947. She moved to Summerland for her first posting where she met the love of her life, Jack. The two were married in a Fernie blizzard in 1949 and followed his work to numerous communities across BC before they retired to the Fraser Valley. Mildred loved the considerable time she spent with five generations of family and friends at the family cabin at Rosen Lake.
Mildred was predeceased by her husband John William (Jack) Walsh in 2003. In 2013, she moved to Cranbrook to be close to family, even though she had sworn to never move back to “those Kootenay winters!”
Missing her the most are her children Kirk and Wendy (Bob), grandchildren Jeff, Lisa (David) and Wes (Brandi), and great-grandchildren Mallory and Nathan, Amelia and Dylan.
The family gives many thanks to the numerous medical specialists who helped guide her care through her last years; specifically Dr. Dave Lenz and Dr. Dustin Post.
Mildred requested that a service not be held (as someone would have to plan one and she didn’t want to put anyone out) but she wouldn’t mind if you remembered her over a game of Scrabble or Rummoli or maybe a glass of wine or scotch.
Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or your favourite charity are asked in lieu of flowers.
