This Remembrance Day long weekend, brought to mind the memory of a WW2 Veteran whom I first met in 1973. I got to know him quite well over the years that followed until regrettably, I lost touch with him about a decade ago.
Although he was rather humble about his "mop up" contributions at War's end, he did serve overseas & I believe received 2 medals which reflect his part in the securing of the Freedoms that we Canadians experience every day.
I am disappointed that circumstances didn't allow me to conduct the Service of Honour & Remembrance which I, as a hospital chaplain & a retired military officer, designed for him in his waning years. I did send it to his elder daughter & hope that he was able to enjoy the fact that he was remembered & appreciated.
I will always remember & be deeply grateful for Bill Karmas.
