David Harris

Obituary of David Harris

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dave, or ‘Gramps’ as he was called by his family, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord; in his garden, surrounded by the spring flowers he was planting. He always had a smile, and readily shared his love and joy for Jesus to all. He was not shy to exclaim “Halleluiah”.  Dave was a retired bricklayer/stone mason and a lot of his work can be seen around Cranbrook, where he resided since 1971.

Dave was born in Lethbridge Alberta. He was the youngest of five brothers and one sister, all of whom passed away before Dave. He met the love of his life Lila (Lolly), in Calgary. They were married for almost forty years until the Lord called Lolly home in 1998. Dave and Lila Harris had four children and were founding members of the Foursquare Church of Cranbrook. They loved to work and travel together and their last trip was to Israel – a place where they both loved to read about.

Although he missed Lolly, Gramps filled his remaining 24 years on earth with church, friends and other activities that he loved. He was steadfast. For the last 20 years, he and his friend Ken Keil met most mornings at church to pray for family, city and country; then it was off to MacDonalds for coffee. After that, it was back home to work on his garden, rock walls, planters and vehicles. Gramps loved life. In 2013 he had one more trip to Israel with his middle daughter, Lana.

Dave and Lila had four children. Terry Rae Zimmer, Rod Harris, Lana Harris and Lolita Hinsperger. He loved them and their (spouses).  He also enjoyed many grandchildren and a great granddaughter.

Terry Zimmer, was married to Don Zimmer. They have three children, David (Rebekah), Josiah (Michelle) who live in Cranbrook. The youngest of the Zimmer family is Jared (Hanna), currently touring New Zealand. To Gramp’s delight, Josiah and Michelle had their first child, Jordana in 2020. Gramps got many chances to hug, kiss and be entertained by his great granddaughter.

Rod Harris (Karen), have three children, Moriah, Sydney and Isaac. They all live in Port Moody and spent many summer vacations at Gramp’s place. They also loved visiting the Foursquare Church with him.

Lolita Hinsperger (Rob) have two children, Kyra and Kevin and they live in Calgary. They spent every chance they could at Gramp’s place, enjoying many adventures. Kevin spent most of his childhood summers at Gramps, learning about cars, construction, hard work and loving Jesus.

Dave shared his joy, ingenuity, and love with all who new him. While we all miss him, we also know that he is happily dancing with his two great loves: Lolly and Jesus.
