Neil Leon Cook

January 21st, 1959 – June 29th, 2022

It is with broken hearts and great sadness that the family of Neil Cook announces his passing. Neil was born and raised in Sparwood, British Columbia. Growing up, Neil had a passion for art, music and academics. One of his fondest memories was his high school trip to Japan. As a young man, he enjoyed leather and woodwork. He excelled in high school while working a full time job. Throughout life, Neil used his creativity to do drawing, oil painting and constructing furniture. He enjoyed all music, collecting stereo components, records and working DJ-ing events. He took great pride in purchasing and caring for his fast cars. He met the love of his life Marilynne in Sparwood in 1979. They met participating in the Community Choir and married in 1981. Neil and Marilynne later moved to Cranbrook where they raised their children. Neil was hard working and worked various jobs over his lifetime. He took pride and enjoyment in working in his yard, carpentry and puttering in his shop on home projects. Neil loved all animals, dogs being his favourite. Neil enjoyed simple things like going out for coffee with his friends, Sunday drives, walking his dogs, playing with his granddaughter, and cooking a meal for a family gathering. Family favourites were his lasagna and potato salad. He was a devoted husband and proudly wore the titles such as “Dad” and “Papa”.

Neil was best known for always wearing a smile and making people laugh. He had a great sense of humour and always had a joke or two to share.

Neil enjoyed helping others and dedicated many hours to community services, volunteer work, fund raising and serving on a variety of committees and organization boards. Neil was a kind, gentle, compassionate and touched the lives of many people. Neil was very honoured and humbled to receive awards in recognition of his hard work and generosity of Life Changer, Citizenship and The Order of British Columbia. 

Neil is lovingly remembered by his wife Marilynne, daughters Avril and Natasha, son Mathew, granddaughter Violet, siblings, Richard(Shirley), Dennis, Delbert(Diane), Brian(Kathy), Cheryl(Fred), Sharon(Ralph), Faye, Ernie(Karen), as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, co-workers.

Neil was predeceased by his father Gordon and mother Alice, brothers Gary and Allen and sisters-in-law Shirley and Louise.

 

A celebration of life for Neil will be held on August 27th, 2022 at the Anglican Church Hall in Cranbrook at 2:00pm.
