Carmela Rapisarda

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our mom, Carmela Rapisarda. Carmela passed away at the age of 70 on Saturday, July 16, 2022 surrounded by family.

 

Carmela was born on February 4, 1952 in Mascali, Sicily to Grazia and Salvatore Previtera.

 

In 1973, as a newlywed, Carmela moved with her husband Johnny Rapisarda from Sicily to Nelson BC, Canada. There they built their first home together by hand, had three children, and began raising their young family. She moved to Cranbrook, BC with her family in 1987 where she spent many years as a seamstress and child caregiver. She ran her day home at her beautiful farm in Gold Creek where she was blessed to have touched the lives of many children and their families.

 

Carmela was always busy working around her farm. She took pride in taking care of her animals at the barn, especially her variety of birds. She spent many hours in her gardens with her hands in the dirt trying to grow different vegetables and plants. She loved fishing, hiking and exploring the mountains with her husband and family.  She shared her love of travel with her family, returning often to her native Sicily, where she remained close to her Sicilian family roots. Carmela was always moving, full of energy, and ready to find the next adventure. She was strong in spirit and body and ready to take on any challenge. Her best times were spent surrounded by her children, laughing and sharing stories and memories. She loved her grandchildren dearly and cherished many precious moments with them.  

Camela was a loving, strong-willed, supportive mother and wife. Her family was everything to her and she was everything to her family. She will be deeply missed.

 

 

Carmela is survived by her children, Frank (Andrea) Rapisarda, Mary (Marc) Fennell, and Elisa (Glen) MacInnis; her grandchildren, Giovanni, Evangeline, Giuliano, and Elliana; her sisters Pippa and Dina, her brothers Alfio and Bastiano and nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, John Rapisarda and her father and mother, Salvatore and Grazia Previtera.

 

A Prayer Service for Carmela will take place Monday July 25, 2022 at 7pm at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday July 26, 2022 at 11am at Christ The Servent Catholic Church in Cranbrook. Interment will follow at the Westlawn Cemetery.
