Obituary of Barton Grant Stewart

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Bart Stewart announces his passing on January 27th, 2023 at the age of 69 after a short battle with cancer.  Bart passed away peacefully with his beloved wife and best friend Sandy at his side.  Bart was a loving father to Eric and Adam (Brienna) Stewart, devoted grandpa to Ethan and Natalie, dear brother to Bob (Margaret), Brian (Estelle), Bailey (Christine) and Brent (Patti).  He is also survived by his mother-in-law Ruth Weil, brothers-in-law Brian (Lisa) and Wayne (Bonnie) Weil, and many nieces and nephews.

 

Bart was born and raised in Eden, Ontario where he spent his youth trapshooting and working on the family farm.  In 1970, Bart was crowned the Canadian Junior Trapshooting Champion.  He was also the Sub Junior Champion for one year and the Ontario Junior Champion for two years in 1970 and 1971.  Bart owned Stewart’s Gun Shop in Tillsonburg, Ontario until 1988 when he went to work for the Tillsonburg Canadian Tire.  In 1993 Bart, Sandy and the boys moved to Cranbrook, BC where Bart worked as the General Manager of Canadian Tire until his retirement in November of 2019.

 

Bart was an avid golfer with many golf buddies at the Cranbrook Golf Course.  He also loved camping with his grandchildren, fishing, and his annual trip to Cuba with his wife Sandy.

 

Bart was predeceased by his mother Mona (1991), his father Max (2010), his father-in-law Joe Weil (2022), and his niece Jenna Stewart (2016).

 

Bart’s beautiful life will always be cherished by his family and friends.  A celebration of life will be held at the Cranbrook Golf Course on Saturday, February 18th from 1-4 p.m.  

 

Memorial donations in Bart's honour to the BCSPCA or charity of your choice would be appreciated by the Stewart family
