Obituary of Madeline Marie Prowse

Please share a memory of Madeline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Madeline Marie Prowse, of Cranbrook, B.C. entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. She was born in Halifax, N.S. on February 24, 1936, the youngest of seven to Edwin and Elizabeth Pelham.

Madeline was a devoted supporter of her children, grandchildren, and friends in all they attempted. Her profound faith, undiminishable tenacity, and spirited humour inspired many. Because she so treasured children, she studied and became an Early Childcare Educator in her fifties and worked until physically unable. She shared her gift for cooking with not only her family but also the community, including working at the Dr. F.W. Green Memorial Home. She was an accomplished knitter and gardener until her hands refused to cooperate, and she was never further than arms-reach from a novel, a deck of cards, or her rosary.

Madeline is survived by her children: Michelle Landry, Derek Prowse (Lydia Miljan), Shaunna (Doug) Cranch, Darrin Prowse, and Shalni Prowse (Scot Kortegaard); her grandchildren: Jarrett Landry (Rachelle Fishman), Miranda Landry (Peter Durkin), Esme Prowse, Baxter Cranch, Arden Prowse, Araleigh Cranch (Patrick Alexander), Claire Prowse, and Wyndham Prowse; and sister-in-law Janice Pelham. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles Prowse, and her brothers and sisters: Harold (Mary) Pelham, Mary Coleman, Howard (Rachel) Pelham, Arthur Pelham, Annie (Bruno) Voigt, and Doreen (Albert) Murphy.

Her Mass of Catholic Burial and Rite of Committal will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Monday, February 13, 2023 at 1 P.M. with reception to follow at MacPherson funeral home. As Madeline loved flowers they are gratefully welcome but if desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in support of Madonna House (https://www.madonnahouse.org/donate/canada/).
