Obituary of Giovanni Santoro

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a loving Husband, Father, Nonno and Zio. Giovanni passed away peacefully on February 2, 2023 at East Kootenay Regional Hospital.  Giovanni was born December 7,1937 in Ruvo del Monte Italy.  He immigrated to Canada in September of 1961, when his older brother sponsored him to come and live in Cranbrook where some of his family had already come to live.  Giovanni was a very hard worker and built his first house in 1965, he married his wife Carmela in 1966 and started their family after she arrived in Cranbrook.  Giovanni loved spending time with his family, along with his brothers family and sisters family going fishing in streams, picnics by the lake playing bocci and playing cards. Giovanni also took pride and love in making wine and gardening. 

Becoming a Nonno brought him great joy, he loved spending every chance he could with his four grandchildren. He also loved spending time with his step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Giovanni is going to be greatly missed, always loved and never forgotten.

Giovanni is survived by his wife Carmela, children Margherita “Rita” (John), Vito (Laura) grandchildren Logan Santoro, Cory Santoro, Austin Santoro, and Nicole Santoro, sister Rosa Maruggi, brothers Giuseppe Santoro, Antonio Santoro all of his nieces, nephews and cousins.

Giovanni was predeceased by his parents Vito Santoro, Margherita Mungiello, brothers Francesco Santoro, Gerardo Santoro, Michele Santoro and sister Maria Santoro.

A Funeral Mass in Giovanni’s honour will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, 11:00 am at Christ the Servant Parish, in Cranbrook.

Following the service interment will take place at Westlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
