Obituary of James Nicholas White

James was the youngest child and only son born to Alice Nicholas (Akisqnuk) and Albert White (Yakan nuki). James is predeceased by his mother and father and sisters, Martina Nicholas, Monica Couture, and survived by Marie Nicholas,
James is father to Christal White, Alice Faye and Catherine Erickson, and chosen father to Jaqueline, Melanie, Olivia and Lyndsay Phillip.
James was grandfather to Nathan, Brittany, Gabriel, Scott Monk, Jana Erickson, Davis, Dylan, Morgan, Lily Monk, Axel Murdock, Ashley, Matthew, Glory and Adam Monk. James also had 17 great- great grandchildren.
As with many Ktunaxa, he spent his early school years at the St. Eugene Residential School, Cranbrook, B.C. In spite of the hardship of forced attendance, James excelled at music and played drums in the Residential School Marching Band. Upon the closure of the St. Eugene’s Residential school in the late 1970’s, James then attended and graduated from David Thompson Senior Secondary School in Invermere, B.C. James was a valuable member of the very successful sports teams of the Columbia Lake Indian Band (Akisqnuk First Nation).
James was long time employee and contractor with the Akisqnuk First Nation, serving as the IT and Water Testing Operator. James was also a strong support to may pursuing sobriety and a better way of life. He is fondly remembered as a kind and gentle counsel to many.
In celebration of his life, the extended family of James White and the Akisqnuk First Nation community welcome you to join us to send our friend, brother, father, uncle and grandfather on his journey.
A memorial service will be held at Akisqnuk First Nation on Thursday, February 23rd.
