Obituary of Ed Herold Riffel

It is with great sadness that the family of Ed Herold Riffel announce his passing at the age of 88 on February 21, 2023.

 

Ed was born in Runnymede, Saskatchewan and later lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Atikokan, Ontario, and many places in British Columbia including Victoria, Lower Nicola, and Cranbrook. He was a dedicated, loving husband to his wife Linda, whom he married on March 22, 1958.

 

Ed started his career as an equipment operator and later became a Heavy-Duty Mechanic. He was known for his ability to fix just about anything with whatever he had on hand.

 

Ed was very passionate about coaching kid’s baseball and hockey. He also loved watching these sports and was a devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. He also enjoyed going for long walks in the bush where he would spend hours looking for trees to cut and split for firewood.

 

Ed was a kind and giving person who enjoyed volunteering at the Lutheran Church whether it was helping with elder support, ushering, setting up for functions, or cutting the lawn. He was always supportive of his wife, Linda, and all of her volunteering efforts. Ed will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him.

 

Ed is survived by his wife, Linda; his brother, Lawrence, and sister, Helen; his sons, Curtis (Londea), Keith, and Dwight (Linda); 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren.

 

Ed was predeceased by his daughter, Janice Lynn; parents, Fred and Lydia; his brother, Rudy, and his sister, Betty.

 

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at a later date.
