Obituary of Lorraine Agnes Sherret
Please share a memory of Lorraine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Sherret, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many people. She passed away at East Kootenay Regional Hospital on February 5, 2023.
Lorraine was born in North Battleford Saskatchewan on August 26, 1932, the eldest child of Angus and Elizabeth MacLellan. Her family relocated to Kimberly BC in 1941 where Lorraine enjoyed highland dancing with the Kimberly Pipe Band, and later taught highland dance lessons.
Prior to meeting her husband Gordon, Lorraine worked for B.C. Telephone as a switchboard operator. Later she worked at Sears & Eatons as a bookkeeper. Lorraine volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society for several years.
Lorraine met her husband Gordon through mutual friends, and they were married in 1957. They spent many happy years together prior to Gordon’s passing in 2016. They lived in the Fraser Valley for a few years, and then permanently relocated to Cranbrook, BC in the early 1960’s. Lorraine became the center of all things related to household, finances and child-rearing. She was the bookkeeper for their business G&L Contracting. Lorraine was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and took great pride in her family and home.
Lorraine was predeceased by both her parents, and her beloved husband Gordon. She leaves to mourn her passing, son Gordie (Jill) Sherret and their sons Michael and Mark, daughter Lorrie-Anne (Darren) Weidner and their son Nathan and daughter Brianne, all of Calgary. Also mourning are her passing are her brothers Don (Heather) MacLellan of White Rock, BC, and Hugh (Doris) MacLellan of Peterborough Ontario. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Annette Sherret of Edmonton Alberta, her brother-in-law Norman Rediger of Preeceville Saskatchewan, and many nieces and nephews.
Respecting the family’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. A graveside service will be held at Westlawn Cemetery in the spring.
