George Gibson

Obituary of George Gibson

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George “Gibby” Gibson. He passed away peacefully on May 7th, 2023 at East Kootenay Regional Hospital with his wife of 62 years, Lorraine, by his side in Cranbrook, BC. at the age of 86.

He was born on October 22nd, 1936 in Brandon, Manitoba to Leonard and Peggy Gibson. He found his passion early in life on the ice, playing hockey for several teams throughout his life including the Cranbrook Royals. Even long after his hockey days ended he still watched every game, always rooting for his favorite team, the Detroit Red Wings.

Some of his other passions in life included being a pipeliner which took him all over the world, telling stories with his incredible sense of humor that could get everyone laughing, classic western movies, and always wanting to “win big” with the lotto tickets.

He was a friend to everyone, often chatting with folks along his walks to downtown Cranbrook. He is remembered by friends and family as one of a kind, and the hardest worker they knew who loved to provide for everyone.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine, and daughters Carolee Gibson (Brian), Karen Gibson, and Kristi Michaels (Bret). A sister, Betty-Ann Spiller and extended family members Jill and Bruce Shandala and family. Along with many nieces, nephews, and grand“fur”children. He was “Grampy” to grandchildren Raine and Jorja Michaels, and Haylee Hosea. As well as great-grandson Max Dubois.

He is predeceased by his parents Leonard and Peggy Gibson, brother Bud Gibson, and Grandson Riley Lawrence.

“There will never be another George”. He will be welcomed in heaven by his beloved dogs Tucker and McGee and his grandson Riley. We will love and miss him so f*cking much!

A private celebration of life in honor of George will happen at a later date this summer.
