1930 - 2011
William Kenneth Garrett Sr. passed away in the early evening of February 11, 2011 at Joseph Creek Care Village in Cranbrook at the age of 80 years. William "Bill" Sr. was born on July 8, 1930 in Kaslo, B.C., one of five children to Gertie and Clarence.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Tina and his two children, Sharon, recently of Cranbrook and Son William " Billy" Jay (Jr.) & (Robin) of Cranbrook, his grandchildren, Christian (Scotty), Samantha, Chelsea (Ryan) and Russell; his great grandchildren, April, Bryce and Cohen, and his brother Norman/Bud (Roberta) of Kaslo, BC and sister Dorothy of Victoria, BC. and many nieces and nephews loved ones and friends. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing
William's "Bill's" working career started in 1946 driving delivery trucks for Marshall's Transfer and CP Express. Over the next few years he worked for Waden Wells Co., McGauley Ready Mix, Imperial Oil and Emil Anderson Construction up to 1960. He then worked for Columbia Cellulose from 1960-1968 and received his 3rd Class Engineering Ticket and then went on to work in May 1966 on the construction of the Arrow Dam in Castlegar. In June 1968 he became Employee No. 001 to be hired at Skookumchuck Pulp Mill for Crestbrook Forest Products and moved his family to Cranbrook. He worked for Crestbrook until 1975 when he and his wife Tina moved to Victoria and Bill went to work for the Empress Hotel as a Steam Engineer Supervisor where he worked until his retirement in 1995. He and Tina then made the move back to Cranbrook to be close to his son and growing family where he spent the next 16 years until his passing.
In memory and to celebrate his life, a gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook, BC (2200 2nd Street South).
The family would like to especially thank the nurses and caring staff of Joseph Creek Care Village and invite them to join us in appreciation of their care and kindness shown to Bill and his family while he was in their care. Bill would want you to join us in thanks.
