Obituary of Lev Lipkov
Please share a memory of Lev to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With deep sadness we share the passing of our dear husband and father, Lev Lipkov, on May 10th, 2023, in Fairmont Hot Springs, British Columbia.
Born January 6th, 1937 in Novosibirsk, Russia, Lev was very much a self-made man. An accomplished geoscientist and a brave and resourceful geological field specialist, he led an adventurous life working in Siberia and the Soviet Arctic under the harshest of conditions. In 1979, fed up with Soviet oppression, he committed to emigrating to Canada with his family. In Calgary, his success continued with a career as a petroleum geophysicist at Petro-Canada’s International Division. Lev and his forever sweetheart retired to Fairmont Hot Springs, BC.
A true erudite, Lev was a multi-talented guy – an avid reader, an expert 20th Century historian, an artisan handyman, a photographer, and an accomplished author of short stories. He was an enthusiastic downhill skier into his eighties, volunteered for the 1988 Calgary Olympics Alpine Events and continued to enrich people’s lives for years as a volunteer Mountain Friend at the Panorama Mountain Resort.
Lev will always be remembered for his kindness, optimism, fairness, and reason, and his indomitable sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife Inga of Fairmont Hot Springs, son Yuri (Margarita) of Calgary, daughter Marianna (Michael) of Superior Colorado, and beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lev’s wonderful memory will always live on in our hearts.
