Obituary of Sharon Lorraine Smith

Please share a memory of Sharon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sharon Smith was born to Jim and Lorraine Cook in Fernie B.C. on August 20, 1951. Her younger years were spent at her childhood home in Grasmere. where she loved the country life with her family and childhood friends. As an older sibling she was placed in the role of being the babysitter of her younger bother Don. This would help prepare Sharon for her role in life as a wife, mother, caregiver, housekeeper and “Staff Mom” at Stanford Inn in Fernie.  Along the way Sharon met and married Ken. Ken and Sharon would go on many adventures together, but their greatest adventure was raising their son Stewart.

During her time at Stanford inn Sharon would suffer a stroke and which lead to her retirement. Her and Ken along with Stewart move back to Invermere where they had a little piece of heaven and had a hobby farm. Here they had a variety of animals. One lesson they learned was not to haul a Nanny goat and her kids in a car with two children.

Another highlight for Sharon was her annual trip to Reno with her parents and sister in-law Joan. These trips created many good memories and laughs. This was mainly due to the pranks that where pulled on Jim and Lorraine by Sharon and Joan.

Sharon's Son Stewart was the light of her life. Anyone who knew Sharon knew he was her life. Stewart cared for his mom at her home in Cranbrook later in her years, as her mobility declined and Stewart was there with her until her passing.

The Family would like to Thank All who stopped by a paid Sharon a visit and helped with household duties.

Sharon passed away while camping (one of her favourite pastimes) at Fort Steele, on May 19, 2023.
