Obituary of Barry James Lance

Please share a memory of Barry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep regret, the family of Barry James Lance announces his passing on June 11, 2023 at the age of 75.

Barry was born the oldest of three children to John and Phyllis Lance in Pembroke, Ontario on June 10, 1948. Barry’s passion and love for the mountains, fishing and hunting brought him to Cranbrook in 1979 where he worked hard in the flooring industry to support his family and build a future. Not long after moving to the Kootenays, Barry and his first wife, Helen Lance, became parents to three girls, Jennifer (Sandy) MacDonald, Cassandra (Derek) Lance, and Candice (Jon) Bakan.

On February 14, 1998, Barry married his soul mate, Carol Marie Lance. It was then that the family extended and Barry became a father to his two boys, who he adored, Brandon (Elizabeth) Tanner and Dale (Amber) Tanner. Barry also became very close with Carol’s twin sister, Cheryl McCormick, and her two children, Justin (Katie) McCormick and Kaylyn Jensen. The love of the family didn’t stop and Barry was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Elyssa and Lance MacDonald, Daxon, Kylee, Stella, Lexie, Cohen, Grayson and Emma Tanner, Jordan Knull, and Valora Bakan.

Barry and Carol were married for 25 years and on June 4, 2023, one week prior to Barry’s death, Carol predeceased her husband. Some hearts aren’t meant to be apart and the sorrow was too much to handle. Barry is predeceased by his parents and survived by his brother Guy (Linda) Lance, Sister Cheryl (Arnold) Nichol, his 5 children and 11 grandchildren.

The Chief David Room at the St. Eugene Mission, will be open on June 24, 2023 between 11:00 am and 12:30 pm for those who would like to pay their respects to Barry. The room will be closed at 12:45 pm for a private service.
