Obituary of Joy Juanita Allen Cowan

Please share a memory of Joy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With broken hearts we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She will be deeply missed by so many.

Joy was born in Golden, B.C. to Hugh Allen Maville and Grace Caroline Henry (Campbell). Joy is survived by her sister Pauline McLeod and brother Bob Campbell. Their bond remained strong throughout their lives despite the physical distance between them. Joy and Pauline had a Sunday morning ritual of calling and chatting about family and life. Joy adoringly referred to Bob as her ‘little brother’ to the end.

Joy’s best life began when she married her best friend and the love of her life, Desmond Cowan and we were all so grateful for the completeness he brought to her world. Des predeceased Mom in 2018. She missed him dearly for her remaining days.

Joy loved her career; she specialized in maternity care and was present for many deliveries throughout Cranbrook and the Columbia Valley. It was her true calling. She will be remembered for her compassion, kind spirit, beauty and love for all those close to her.

Most importantly, she loved us:

Her children, Rick Tegart (Dianna), Lorena Tegart (Scott), George Tegart (Denise) and Lisa Henriksen, (Murray). Grandchildren, Kristin, Courtenay, Justin, Laurel and Jessica. Great Grandchildren, Sequoia, Shyne, Billie, Everett, Nate, Saylor and Haylee. Her circle of friends who were more like family. She surrounded herself with great people.

A celebration of life will take place. Date and location will be posted once arrangements have been made.
