Obituary of Kevin Douglas Hildebrandt
Please share a memory of Kevin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gone too soon, Kevin Douglas Hildebrandt went to heaven on the morning of August 16, 2023, peacefully surrounded by love. Kevin was so much to so many, including a father to his beautiful daughter Grace (Kyle) and her siblings Amber, Dana and Jason Degagne. Grandpa to Tyrone, Destiney, Lilly, Ben, Zoe, Django, Boden and oh the excitement he held knowing his new little grandson was on his way this November.
A brother to his ten siblings, Bob (Darlene), Wilma, Jim, Carolyn (Tom), Stan, Dennis (Nancy), Debra, Nancy (Chris), Brenda (Dale), Gary (Ruby). An incredible Uncle, a special Cousin, a good Friend to so many, and a loving companion and true partner to Dawn in this final chapter of his life.
Born December 14, 1968, in Michel-Natal, BC, to Peter and Mary Hildebrandt, Kevin was the baby of the family and his passing leaves a gap that will never be filled. Kevin grew up in Sparwood, BC and graduated there in 1986. Many of his grad class remain close and they hold fond memories of their school years and beyond. As a young man Kevin wowed us with his boxing talents and some can still hear the echoes of his mother cheering from the crowd, “Get him Kevin!”
A welder by trade, Kevin spent over 20 years at the Line Creek mine where he specialized in Mine Rescue and joined his team in multiple celebrations, including the title of Provincial Champions. A rugged outdoorsman, Kev loved to hunt, fish, and especially skidoo. His sledding adventures often ended with campfires and drinks with his fellow riders where he was known to embellish on the retelling of tales.
Although a battle with cancer began a number of years ago, it would not steal the strength and determination of this true fighter. Kevin carried on living in every way and poured his whole heart into every day. As the days grew shorter, Kevin took time to truly enjoy family and friends; and never gave up dreams of travel, work and ice cream adventures. Our hearts are heavy, and we may struggle to find joy in this transition, but we do know that he now joins those who went before him. Predeceased by his precious mother, Mary, his dad, Peter, and many other family members who were there to welcome him ‘home’ to Jesus. Go rest high on that mountain, Kev. we’ll see you again one day.
