Obituary of Robert Donald West

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert (Bob) passed away suddenly on October 3, 2023 at his home in Cranbrook BC, with staff workers by his side.

Bob was born on February 2, 1954 at St. Eugene Hospital in Cranbrook to Donald Robert West and Frances Mary West (nee Flak).

Bob grew up in the East Kootenays area including Skookumchuck, the family home in Wasa, and his home in Cranbrook.

Bob grew up in Wasa at the family home, and started school at Wasa until he was diagnosed with his disability and then went to Pinewood School for the disables at McKim Secondary School in Kimberley. Bob and his happy gang (Rusty, Gail, Melanie (Kimmy) and Juanita (Mandy) could be found hanging out, riding the school bus together, or just doing what kids did. Bob’s disability never stopped him from enjoying life and being himself. Bob was so shy when meeting people, until he got to know you and once that happened you were friends forever. Bob had a smile (his trademark) that lit up the room, along with his sense of humor.

Bob was predeceased by his parents Donald and Frances and his sister Margaret.

Bob is survived by his brother Chuck and sister Patty and his Aunts Edye Kermack, Dorothy Woods and Margaret Qualtieri, nephew Barry Gould, and many cousins and friends.

The family of Bob would like to thank the staff of Nexus Community Support Society, staff workers Shayne, Woody, Cindy, Lizz, Murray, Lisa, Dora, and Cathy for their love and care of our brother Bob.

There will be a Celebration of Life in Bob’s honour at a later date.
