Obituary of Vernon Carl Englehart

Please share a memory of Vernon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

1934 - 2011

Vernon (Vern) Englehart passed away unexpectedly on Monday evening, March 7, 2011, at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook surrounded by his family.

Vernon was the youngest of seven children born to Walter and Sarah Englehart on the family farm in Runnymede, Quebec on November 10, 1934. Vernon was an outdoor enthusiast from a very young age and hunting and fishing became a big passion in his life. In 1954 he married Charlotte Chesser, and together they raised three children.

After working on the river and the farm he worked briefly for the railroad before starting a career in the wood products industry. This work brought him across the country to British Columbia where he moved to work in the Sawmill Industry in Houston B.C. and later to Golden, B.C. Ill health caused Vern to retire early but he still managed to enjoy his passion for the outdoors hunting, fishing and camping with his family. Vernon's grandchildren were very special to him. Vernon and Charlotte moved to Cranbrook in 1993, and met and became close to wonderful friends. Vernon soon became an avid Kootenay Ice Hockey Fan; he became a season pass holder upon his arrival in Cranbrook.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife Charlotte of 56 years, his only son Bryan Englehart (Janice), two daughters, Lori Formenti (Elio) and Patti Piggot (Bryce). His grandchildren, Jaime Thomson (Steve), Jay Formenti (Lauren), Shawn Englehart (Laura), Andrew Englehart (Nikita), Colin and Calli Piggot, as well as a great grandson, Madden Thomson and great granddaughter Lacey Englehart.

A memorial for Vernon will be held on Monday, March 14th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Golden Seniors Center at 1401- 9th Avenue South in Golden, followed by a private family internment at the Golden Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate in Vern's memory may do so to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit , 3rd floor, 13 - 24th Avenue North, Cranbrook, British Columbia, V1C 3H9.

Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
