Obituary of Daryl Clark Walkley

Please share a memory of Daryl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Daryl was born to Benjamin August Walkley and Angeline (Morigeau) Walkley on June 28th, 1951 in the St. Eugene Hospital, Cranbrook, B.C. and passed on December 19, 2023 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital, Cranbrook, B.C.

From 1965 – 1973, Daryl worked as a butcher for his Aunt and Uncle Helen and Jack Walkley at Walkley’s Meat Market, Cranbrook, B.C. and from 1973 until retirement in 2007, worked as a Planerman for Crestbrook Forest Industries/Tembec in the Planer Mill.  On retirement, Daryl transitioned into working full time with his son Corrie and later with his grandson Trent on the family farm which is a cattle operation.  It was these times when the 3 generations of the “Walkley Boys” were working together that Daryl expressed great pride and was the happiest.  He continued this lifestyle until September, 2022 when his Dementia/Alzheimer’s became so severe that he had to reside at Joseph Creek Care Village, Cranbrook, B.C.

Daryl had a colourful and boisterous personality with a unique sense of humour and a fiery kind of guy.  He was a very hard worker, a mechanical and steel fabrication genius, a jack-of-all trades and was extremely creative and innovative in all these capacities.

Daryl is survived by Dianne, his wife of 52 years, son Corrie (Annette) and grandson Trent.  Also surviving are sisters Gloria Hunter, Priscilla Walkley, Louise Bennett, Kathryn Teneese and brothers Joe Walkley, Jim and Irvine Whitehead, sister-in-law Donna Conroy and numerous nieces and nephews.

As per Daryl’s wishes, he will be cremated with no funeral service or celebration of life.  Memorial donations can be made to East Kootenay SPCA, P.O. Box 2, Cranbrook, B.C.  V1C 4H6
