Please share a memory of Jo Anne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jo Anne Myers (neé McFadyen), 74, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed into God’s kingdom Wednesday January 31, 2024, after a short illness with cancer.

Jo Anne was born on March 15, 1949, to George and Genevieve (Toots) McFadyen in Watrous, Saskatchewan and grew up there with her two older brothers and younger sister until the family moved to Regina where she completed her last year of high school.

After graduating from Thom Collegiate she attended the University of Regina and received a teaching certificate in 1969.  She then moved to Calgary and taught at Mayland Heights School until 1971. She met her future husband Bob Myers in Thompson at her brother Jim’s wedding and was soon engaged (after a whirlwind romance).  In 1971, Jo Anne moved to Thompson, Manitoba and was married to Bob on November 12, 1971. She continued teaching in Thompson and gave birth to her only son Greg in 1975. In 1978 the family moved to Saskatoon where Jo Anne continued to teach at Howard Coad School.  Jo Anne then returned to university and received a Bachelor of Education at the University of Saskatchewan.  After graduating she continued teaching at Lester B Pearson School and then Lakeview School before retiring in 2003.

Jo Anne and Bob retired to Invermere, British Columbia.  Jo Anne remained in Invermere after Bob’s death in 2008, surrounded by many dear friends and family. Jo Anne was active in the Invermere community as a member of the Invermere Healthcare Auxiliary Society and enjoyed volunteering at the Invermere thrift store with her friends.  She enjoyed the company of her friends and family and was always upbeat and ready for a coffee or an adventure. She also enjoyed travelling near and far during her retirement, both with friends, family and on her own.

She is survived by her son Greg (Gareth Jessica), her grandsons Dylan, Aaron and Matthew, her brothers Bob (Donna) McFadyen and Jim McFadyen, and younger sister Mary  (Jean-Luc) McFadyen, as well as her nieces and nephews and many cousins.

A celebration of life service will be held later in the spring in Invermere with an exact date yet to be determined.
