We first met John and Betty through shift work at Cominco in Trail. John was a working man's crew shift boss. There was never a shortage of fishing stories and BS. I did make it a practise of reminding John of what I thought of fishermen - "They're all liers". We did do a couple of evening fishing attempts with John. Me being an impatient fisherman, our outings were not what John had bragged about, which caused me to remind him of my thoughts. His response was usually his giggly grin. There was a group of us shifties intrigued by John's cedar strip canoe. He made us aware there were prints/plans in Cominco's Engineering Department's print room. Four of us shifties modeled John's cedar strip canoe and still have them today.
John's influences continue to be cherished today.

This is sad news. I remember Digger so fondly. Digger was always willing to help with our projects ...always a smile on his face. So full of life ...I will miss him.

Sorry to hear of John's passing.
First met him in 1971 when he had a sports shop in Kimberley. He was a good salesman and I bought some good stuff that I still have.
Always enjoyed talking whenever we met.
Good fishing Digger!
