Obituary of Nancy Grace Dayman

Please share a memory of Nancy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Nancy Dayman affectionately know to all that knew and loved her as Granny was born July 22, 1948 in Preeceville Sask.  Nancy passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024 at 3:29pm after a 4 year battle with COPD.  Nancy was the 11th and youngest child of Alfred and Marjorie Nightingale.  Nancy’s life was filled with a love of many things, the love of family being the closest to her heart.

Nancy met a young handsome man named Robert “Bob” Dayman in 1966, the sparks flew and a new journey soon began.  Nancy came with a daughter Deborah.  Bob immediately embraced the role of Daddy to little Debbie.  In 1967, Bob, Nancy and Debbie made their way from Saskatchewan to Edmonton then to Cranbrook B.C. in 1968 where they would live out their marriage of 50 years and build on their family.  In 1973 the couple would add a very small baby boy to their family.  One night while Nancy and premature baby were still in the hospital, Bob sat at home watching Old Yeller on the TV.  The next day Bob announced to Nancy that he had a name for their son and hence Travis came to be.  If Nancy had any dreams of a career or travel she never spoke much of them.  In her heart the most important career was that of wife, mother, daughter, sister, auntie and friend to many.

Nancy would be up at 3 am if not earlier to put together Bob’s lunch and have tea with him before he went off to work.  Then getting Travis and Debbie off to school.  Her house, yard, garden, vehicles were always immaculetly kept.  Spending many hours tending to the gorgeous flowers that she had all summer long.  While Nancy’s parents were still alive she could be found at their house helping out or running errands for them.  Always back home to make lunch for the kids.  Kids being her own and anyone that the 2 had dragged home with them.  The Nightingale siblings were a close knit bunch.  Those that lived in Cranbrook would get together for Thursday groceries at safeway, weekend camping trips, winter skidooing and toboganing adventures, Friday night poker games just to mention a few.  If you came for coffee there was always a snack to be had or if at meal time a plate of food for you.  On occasion Nancy would venture out to play bingo or spend some time at the Casino with the few good friends that she had.

Travis and Deborah have many friends who think of Nancy as their other mother.  Knowing that Nancy was always there should they need anything.  A meal, a bed, an ear to listen, a hug or a kick in the butt should you need it could always be counted on.

Almost 4 years to the date of Nancy’s passing she lost her life partner Bob and when Paster Jack asked my what first attracted her to him her answer was pure and honest “His looks”!  She missed him immensely and now they are together again.

Nancy is survived by her Daughter Deborah Nawroski ((Robyn and Pat, (William and soon to be baby chip “already nicknamed by Granny”), Terrance and Carmel)), Son Travis Dayman and Denise, (Dakota and Bre (Declan)), Step-daughter Lindee-Lee and Dennis Hoenhe ((Dylan and Amanda (Reese), Shelby and Bradley (Broox & Kolynns), Karlee, Chance & Jillian)). 1 sister in Kelowna, numerous extended family members and friends.

A Graveside Service in Nancy’s honour will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday July 18, 2024 at Westlawn Cemetery in Cranbrook British Columbia.
