Obituary of Marie Catherine Joyce

The family of Marie Catherine Joyce of Cranbrook BC is saddened to announce her passing on July 24, 2024 at the age of 85 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her 6 daughters: Jackie (Stephen), Janine, Debby (Dan), Kathie (Steve), Kristi (Richard) and Danielle (Kris); Grandchildren: Matthew (Paige), Nicholas (Kelsey), Owen (Natasha), Jaina, Sean, Jarod, Gunnar, Ivy and London; Great~grandson, Corbin; sister Joanne.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Rod Joyce; brother, Michael and her parents Joe and Millie Halko.

Marie was born on April 7,1937. She married Rod in 1961. She trained as a nurse graduating from St.Paul’s in Vancouver. Soon after starting her career she began the next chapter of her life with the arrival of Jackie. The next couple of decades they raised her 6 daughters and once the youngest Danielle started school, she returned to nursing. She worked at Extended Care at the hospital, working with many wonderful people. She had many funny stories of her work and patients.

‘Mer’ loved to be with family and enjoyed all the times they had together. She was always in the kitchen for family gatherings showing her grandchildren how to make perogies, cabbage rolls, pineapple fluff and her ‘Marshmallows’. Mom was always known to make a turkey in the summer on the hottest day of the year. She was not shy of letting you know her opinion - especially her opinion on baseball. Her and Rod spent many vacations and lots of their time watching baseball. Her favorite teams included the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays. Marie kept a small circle of friends whom she spent many hours watching said sports and again voicing her opinions!!

Marie was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and great grandmother who was always there when we needed her the most.

The family is planning a celebration of life at a later date.
