Obituary of Gotfried Schindel

Gotfried (Fred) Schindel, age 84, of Cranbrook, B.C., passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 23, 1939, in Rabbit Lake, Saskatchewan, to Gotfried and Natalie Schindel.
Fred enjoyed a fulfilling career in banking, primarily with the Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC). His work took him to various locations, including California, northern Alberta, and northern
Saskatchewan, before moving to Cranbrook, where he would work for many years, before eventually retiring. Beyond his professional life, Fred cherished spending time with his family, cheering for his favorite hockey teams, listening to music, playing cards, gardening, and enjoying social gatherings with friends.
Fred is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marion; his children Kelly Thorsteinson (Chris), Patricia Thompson (Pat), David Quinn (Michelle), and daughter-in-law Mary Quinn; as well as six grandchildren: Chelsea, Jessica, Kade, Kelly, Bereket, and Eskedar, and two great-grandchildren, Eli and Brooke, with one more on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Cone (Laurie), along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Kevin Quinn, and his siblings Art, Lina, Harry, and Adel.
A funeral service in celebration of Fred's life will be held on Monday, November 4, at 11:00 AM at Christ the Servant Church in Cranbrook.
