(nee Pelletier)
June 9, 1928 - June 5, 2010
The family of June Hughes wish to share the news of her recent passing at East Kootenay Regional Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
June was born in Carmangay, Alberta, moving to Pincher Creek, then Fernie, and finally settling in Cranbrook. She married Alley Hughes in 1947, and here she spent the rest of her adult life. She was a valued employee of Kelly, Douglas & Company for more than 25 years, and very much enjoyed her work there. She had many interests and talents, including cooking, gardening, sewing, knitting, bowling and discussing politics. Friends and family that were lucky enough to receive the many beautiful sweaters and afghans she knit will treasure them always. In her retirement years, she took up painting and enjoyed traveling. Despite suffering ill health most of her life, she fought the good fight until the end.
June was predeceased by her husband Alley, and also outlived her six siblings: sisters Shirley and Regis, and brothers Andy, Stewart, Calvin/Rocky, and Neville. She is survived by her son Brian/Sam Hughes and daughter-in-law Lynn; her daughter Dale-Ann van Leusden and son-in-law Jack; three grandsons Jason Hughes, Jesse (Amber) Myles, Derek (Molly) van Leusden; one granddaughter Kate (Nathan) Troxel; two great-grandchildren Nathan and Jayden Bellis-Myles and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. At June's request, there will be no funeral, but a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The Kidney Foundation of Canada, 200, 4940 - Canada Way, Burnaby, British Columbia,
