Darrel Elmore 1936 - 2015 On the morning of Saturday, February 21, 2015 Darrel passed away at the F. W. Green Memorial Home in Cranbrook at 78 years of age. Darrel was born and raised in Langly, BC. He worked with his father Fred in their Whitewash Business. During their spare time together Darrel took boxing lessons from his dad Fred and won 110 amateur fights and a Canadian Golden Gloves award. He was one match away from a bout with Mohammed Ali, who was then known as Cassius Clay. In the 1950's Darrel moved to Smithers where he raised his family. He worked a variety of jobs: boy's camp counsellor, bouncer, many trucking jobs, machine operator, coal miner, hunting guide and also a farrier business. He taught many boys the art and discipline of boxing in the 1970's and 1980's while coaching at his Outcasts Boxing Club. In 1988 Darrel and his wife Bonnie moved to Creston and eventually retired in Cranbrook in 1997. Much loved and admired, Darrel was a wonderful person and a true friend who touched the hearts of many. Darrel was predeceased by his brother Ron, his son Brown and his parents Emily and Fred. He is survived by his loving wife Bonnie, brother Gordie, sister Sue, daughter Ree (Brent), son Bob, stepson Conan (Kathy), stepson Jason, grandchildren Jen (Ian), Erin, Brenna, Harleigh and Logan and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Darrel's Life will be held in Smithers at a later date to be announced. Darrel's family would like to thank the F. W.
