1942 - 2011

Richard John Abbott passed away on August 11, 2011 in Cranbrook, British Columbia.

Born in Montreal in 1942, he was the son of Peter John and Joan Irene Abbott, and was the oldest of four children. He had two brothers, Roy and Fred, and a sister Dorothy. He served in the Canadian Navy along the BC coast for three years, then moved to Kitimat, where he worked as a carpenter at Alcan until his retirement in 2000.

Richard is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Dale Richard and Alina Christine Abbott, and close cousin and friend Allen Fry. He is predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Lewis.

Richard had a great enthusiasm for life, and had a love for motorcycles, Mexico and all animals. He had many cats and dogs throughout his life, including 9 Maltese dogs, and most recently his beloved cat, Domino. Richard had a heart filled with compassion for those who were hurting, and enormous generosity to those whom he loved.

A memorial service for Richard will be held at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 10:00 am. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in honour of Richard may do so to the BCSPCA in lieu of flowers.
